Alan Judge 1 Brentford’s impressive summer signings are still settling in and will only get better as the season progresses, according to midfielder Alan Judge. The defeat to Hull City on Tuesday night ended a four-game winning streak for the west Londoners, who currently sit five points off the play-off places. That run of form came during a cruel succession of injuries, ruling out key players like captain Andreas Bjellend and ex-Chelsea starlet Josh McEachran. And Judge reveals there is still more to come from new faces like Maxime Colin and Liverpool loanee Sergi Canos, once they adapt to the rough and tumble of English football.“Maxime Colin, I like him,” Irishman judge said about the French defender. “He’s good on the ball and he knows how to tackle.“Sergi is so direct and we need that. The new players are settling in well but it will take time.“In some cases they have come from a country where you can barely touch a player to one where you can boot them six foot in the air. They will get stronger.”
INGLEWOOD Tires squealing, the BMW Z4 tore through a series of sharp turns before I swung it into a sweeping left and then skidded to a slippery stop on a patch of wet pavement. And I got to do it again and again and again and again. We were on a fenced-off area of the sprawling Hollywood Park parking lot for an afternoon test-driving of three of Goodyear’s all season tires – the Eagle F1 All Season, the Wrangler Silent Armor and the Assurance Triple Tread. Turns out that I’m not the only one who like these Goodyears. The Web store Tirerack.com processed reviews from 2,545 people who took an online survey and the Eagle F1 GS-DC received superior or excellent ratings. On a zero to 10 scale this tire rated an 8.9 for its ability to resist hydroplaning, a 9.1 for wet traction and a 9.2 for its dry traction. “The Eagle F1 GS-D3 excels in wet conditions by delivering class-leading hydroplaning resistance and traction, as well as offers competitive dry performance,” the site says. All three of these tires offer some pretty snazzy features. “A tire is a product that is expected to perform consistently in all types of weather conditions… and enhance the performance of the vehicle on which it is mounted,” said Jean-Claude Kihn, Goodyear’s general director of technology and new product planning. Here’s what Goodyear says. The Eagle F1 (and the ResponseEdge version) features a carbon fiber sidewall. It weighs less than similar strength steel and is a common component in race cars and jets. This stiffens the sidewall and does make for more responsive handling and point-and-go steering. The Eagle also earned a good rating from Consumer Reports magazine. The Assurance tire features a rubber compound that contains volcanic sand, and its grit features microscopic cavities that work like tiny traction edges to provide better grip on slick roads. This tire has a nylon ply cap, two heavy steel belts and two polyester layers which offer sidewall strength. The tread also has three zones, one for ice, one for water and one for a dry surface. The Wrangler, for trucks and SUVs, contains a quiet zone that muffles the road hum common to heavy-duty tires. The SilentArmor comes from a layer of Dupont’s Kevlar, which the company says provides comfort and toughness. And hidden deep in the tread are thousands of gripping nodes, little nubby bits of rubber that add more than 75 square inches of surface area and help shed snow in winter driving conditions. email@example.com (818) 713-3743160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. The company was giving some of its sales folks and journalists the chance to compare the Goodyears with another well-known brand. A total of nine trips around the circuits and the cars equipped with the Goodyears did handle better. On the other tires you could feel the BMW’s rear end start to swing out on the last big left turn and there was a bit of fish-tailing during the hard braking. And both the truck and sedan got positively sideways if I took a turn too fast on the other tires.

Paul Ince claims Liverpool v Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night is the biggest game in Europe this week. The Europa League quarter-final tie is finely poised after the first leg in Germany last week ended in a 1-1 draw. The competition is often derided as a poor cousin of the Champions League, but Ince is relishing the Merseyside meeting between Jurgen Klopp’s current and former teams.Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the former Liverpool midfielder said: “Everyone was talking about Man City v PSG, Barcelona and Bayern Munich this week but the biggest game is the one tonight.“After the first leg it is set up lovely for a fantastic game.“Dortmund have done ever so well this year. They are chasing Bayern Munich down in the German league and they have got some very, very good players. But I still fancy Liverpool. “Liverpool have got a very expensive team. They have spent a lot of money on their team and have got some really top, top players.“It will be a great game and one I can’t wait to see. I think Liverpool will come through in the end – I hope so. “It is going to be a fantastic night for European football.”

OKLAHOMA CITY – A rash of wildfires raged Sunday across Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico, including one that burned several homes in northeastern Oklahoma City. Several city residents were evacuated but no injuries were reported, Fire Maj. Brian Stanaland said. Television images showed at least one large structure engulfed in flames. At least a dozen wildfires continued to burn across Oklahoma on Sunday evening, urged on by winds up to 50 mph and hot, dry weather. A large blaze near Guthrie threatened several homes, said Michelann Ooten, a spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management. At least 20 fires sprang up in Texas, including an 8,000-acre blaze that threatened up to 200 homes near Carbon, about 125 miles west of Dallas. In Hobbs, N.M., a grass fire forced the evacuation of a casino, community college and neighborhoods. Wildfires in Oklahoma and Texas last week ravaged more than 50,000 acres, destroyed nearly 100 homes and businesses and killed four people. At least 15 grass fires burned in the metro area Sunday afternoon, consuming more than 100 acres, Stanaland said. “Today has been extremely intense,” he said. “I think it’s maybe starting to take its toll on our department.” Power lines arced and sparked one grass fire in northeast Oklahoma City. While firefighters battled that blaze, high winds tossed material from a nearby construction site into power lines, causing the debris to burn before it landed on a nearby nursing home, Stanaland said. “You basically had flying, flaming debris,” Stanaland said. “Luckily, we were already on the scene putting out the fires when it happened so we were able to put it out.” A fire near Wainwright in Muskogee County charred several thousand acres and was at least a mile wide, but no injuries or structure fires were reported, said Bill Beebe, an information officer at a statewide command center established in Shawnee. Oklahoma had called on firefighters from across the South to help battle the blazes, which had been predicted over the weekend. In Carbon, at least three homes and several barns were destroyed Sunday afternoon and area residents were evacuated, said Texas Forest Service spokeswoman Traci Weaver. Helicopters with the Texas Air National Guard help firefighters battle the blaze. Billowing clouds of light gray smoke hung across the horizon for miles. Carbon is just northeast of Cross Plains, where more than 90 homes and a church were destroyed in a raging grass fire last week. “We just took up money for the folks in Cross Plains at church this morning, never thinking it would be us in just three hours,” said Mallory Fagan, who waited in nearby Eastland with her daughter, Shana Fuchs, and 15 dogs they rounded up from the family’s dog rescue. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Rapper turned actress, singer, spokeswoman and producer Queen Latifah on Wednesday became the first hip-hop artist crowned with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “I think the reason I am here is to inspire African-American women who are rappers, full-figured women to know that they can do it too,” Latifah, 35, said at the unveiling of the sidewalk’s 2,298th star. Family and friends, including actor Terrence Howard, cheered Latifah on. “Who would have known that in the ’70s, when a pink 8-pound baby girl was born, this is where she would be today. She came out screaming, ‘Look out world, here I come,”‘ her mother Rita Owens said. Thousands of euro is walking out of my store each week.“I know for a fact that it is happening across the board but the bigger multi-nationals can afford to take a hit but I cannot. It is having a very really impact on my business.”Mr Cooney revealed how he was assaulted when he tried to stop two people shoplifting at his store last week. “I went to stop them leaving the shop with some goods and I was attacked. The woman hit me about the head with her mobile phone. This is the kind of thing shopowners are up against on a daily basis.“Local businesses are really suffering as a result of this because goods are just walking out the door and there is very little being done about it.“It’s happening on a large scale basis and everything from clothing to storage heaters is walking out the door.“Something will have to be done because businesses are up against the wall already without this large-scale shoplifting happening on top of that,” he added.‘THOUSANDS OF EURO IN STOCK IS WALKING OUT OF MY STORE EACH WEEK” – DONEGAL BUSINESSMAN was last modified: April 11th, 2016 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Cooneys Home and Gardendonegalshoplifting
This week, DD’s Finance columnist Shona Chambers from John McColgan Financial Services explains how there is crucial you don’t make contributions or choose pension investments blindly! In response to the Mind the Gap study, carried out by consultancy firm Deloitte for Aviva Insurance, I’ve seen headlines like ‘Sickening news for anyone retiring in Ireland over the next 40 years’, ‘Future retirees told to save extra €1,100 a month’, and ‘Irish workers need to save over €1,000 a month more, states pension report’ crop up on online news sources. It is disconcerting to read headlines like this, and some might even call it scaremongering. However, these headlines can be a good thing if they stimulate conversation and get people thinking about their financial future. Many of us equate saving more for retirement with denying ourselves the things we want now — and the prospect of buying a new car or going on a foreign holiday will always look more attractive than making pension contributions. But think about it this way — how would you like to pay less tax? In fact, tax relief is one of the biggest attractions for most people when it comes to saving for retirement!Employees also make contributions to employer-sponsored pensions schemes because their company will match their contributions. A good way to think of this is that it’s free money! And who wouldn’t want to turn down free money? It’s good that people are making some kind of pension contribution. It goes without saying that any kind of contribution is better than none at all. At least there will be something in the pot at retirement. The big BUT is that few people understand how much income their pension contributions will give them in retirement, and nor do they understand how much they will need. In fact, many are making contributions blindly with no advice going on behind the scences. And these are the people with pension plans! There is a whole other group of people in Donegal with no pensions at all. Recent research by Friends First showed that 36% of households in the North-West have no private pensions, meaning that those people will be entirely dependent on the state pension when they retire. The current rate for the contributory state pension for a single person is just €233 per week.Ask yourself this question: could you live and pay all your bills if you had to rely solely on the state pension? Clearly, a lot of people will face a sudden sharp drop in their incomes, or they will be forced to work well into their 60s and even 70s to meet their expenses. It’s no surprise then that the same Friends First research found that 84% of people without a private pension fear that they will not have enough income to support them in retirement.Naturally, affordability is a huge factor when it comes to saving for retirement. Some pension contributions are certainly better than none. The key is to meet with an independent financial advisor and understand how much income your current pension will equate to in retirement. Don’t make contributions or choose pension investments blindly!Do you know how much your pension will give you in retirement? If not, get in touch and we can help you make a plan that will suit your needs.Shona Chambers QFA RPA is a Qualified Financial Advisor and Retirement Planning Advisor with John McColgan Financial Services.
